A very warm welcome

to everyone to the Flute Meeting 2009 at the City of Larissa Conservatory. Organised for the 7th consecutive year, our Flute Meeting is turning a page. For the first time in Greece, a festival focused on an instrument is honoured by the simultaneous presence of such important figures not only of the flute world but also of the music world in general. The 1st Mediterranean Flute Competition attracted participants from almost 30 countries, rendering our Flute Meeting a meeting place of different cultures where flutists from all around the world can exchange ideas
and experiences in a friendly atmosphere, fulfilling thus one of our most ultimate goals: cultural exchange which helps us “reflect on our common humanity” as Wissam says.

On behalf of FluteArt I would like to express my grateful thanks to the Municipality of Larissa and especially to the City of Larissa and its director, Mr Alexiou.

Personally I would like to thank my colleagues in FluteArt for their generous contribution. Many thanks go to all volunteers who helped us before and during the event. Last but not least, I want to thank my wife for being so unbelievably understanding.
